Trump Reportedly Considering Dan Bongino to Run the Secret Service
President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering Dan Bongino to run the Secret Service.
Bongino currently hosts The Dan Bongino Show on Rumble but was previously an NYPD officer and Secret Service agent.
According to a CNN report, Trump is considering Bongino or Sean Curran, the head of his current detail, for the position.
The report continues:
Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe, meanwhile, was unsuccessful in trying to set up a meeting with Trump this week.
Others on the list of potential picks include Robert Engel, the former head of Trump’s detail who was with him on January 6, 2021, and testified to the House select committee about the former president’s speech at the Ellipse that preceded the US Capitol attack.
Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle left the position following the failed assassination attempt on Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July.
“Members of Congress as well as an independent review panel set up under the Department of Homeland Security have said the Secret Service needs a complete revamp and would benefit from an outsider coming in and refocusing the agency to its core mission of protection,” the report explained.
During his show last week, Bongino said he has not had a formal conversation with Trump about the position.
Trump has not publicly indicated who he is considering for the role.
