Trump Agenda Upended as Rep. Anna Paulina Luna and Eight Other House Republicans Join Democrats to Derail Two Critical Bills Due to Proxy Voting Feud

A handful of Republicans decided to put themselves first and derail President Trump’s agenda for at least a week all because of an obscure issue few people in America care about.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) dramatically resigned from the House Freedom Caucus on Monday, accusing her former allies of betrayal, blackmail, and abandoning “pro-family” values.
Luna’s departure stems from her fierce advocacy for a bipartisan measure that would allow new mothers and fathers in the House to vote remotely for 12 weeks following the birth of their child. The proposal, co-sponsored with Democratic Representative Brittany Pettersen (D-CO), gained traction through a rare discharge petition, securing discharge signatures from over 200 Democrats and 11 Republicans.
A discharge petition is a procedural tool that enables lawmakers to bypass leadership and bring a bill to the House floor—if it secures signatures from a majority of members.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) refused to accept Luna’s plan, labeling it unconstitutional. He and other House GOP leaders attempted to block the petition by inserting language in an unrelated “rules” package on Monday night that would have effectively prevented Luna’s bill from getting a vote.
So Luna decided to exact her revenge Tuesday afternoon with the help of eight other Republicans.
As Fox News reported, the nine GOPers joined all Democrats to defeat a rules package which would have allowed for debate and floor consideration for two critical bills backed by the Trump administration that were slated to get a vote on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
The two pieces of legislation under consideration would have limited district judges’ ability to levy nationwide injunctions and mandated proof of citizenship to register to vote.
Arguably, the radical left’s most effective weapons are their ability to steal elections and frivolously lawfare. Now, Democrats can breathe a sigh of relief and guffaw at the fact that the GOP is in disarray and cannot pursue further floor action for the rest of the week.
“It’s a very disappointing result on the floor there, a handful of Republicans joined with all the Democrats to take down a rule. That’s rarely done. It’s very unfortunate,” Johnson said. “That rule being brought down means that we can’t have any further action on the floor this week.”
As expected, Democrats erupted in applause after the vote failed.

Here were the nine Republicans who joined with the opposition party and allowed the radical left at least another week of free reign.
- Anna Paulina Luna of Florida
- Tim Burchett of Tennessee
- Nick LaLota of New York
- Kevin Kiley of California
- Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey
- Greg Steube of Florida
- Max Miller of Ohio
- Mike Lawler of New York
- Ryan Mackenzie of Pennsylvania
Along with Luna, many TGP readers will be disappointed to see MAGA favorite Burchett’s name on the list. He released a video following the vote, calling Luna’s legislation “pretty reasonable.”

Luna was equally pleased after the rule failed.
“I think that today is a pretty historical day for the entire conference and showing that, yeah, the body has decided that parents deserve a voice in Washington and also to the importance of female members having a vote in Washington D.C.,” Luna said to reporters.
