On Friday, The New York Times reported that special agent in charge of the Columbia Field Office in South Carolina, Steven Jensen, was appointed as Assistant Director of the Washington Field Office.

Jensen has a history of involvement in the January 6th persecutions and, according to the House transcribed interview of former Supervisory Intelligence Analyst George Hill, called J6ers “goddamn terrorists” and pledged that “we’re gonna round them all up.”

According to Hill, there were “thousands of people” on that conference call.

The New York Times reported:

But some of those moves appear at odds with Mr. Patel’s past derision of the F.B.I.’s aggressive approach to Jan. 6. The new assistant director Mr. Patel named to run the Washington field office, Steven J. Jensen, was in charge of the bureau’s domestic terrorism operations section on that day, and he played a key role in responding to the attack on the Capitol.

Comments on X, calling into question the decision the appointment originated with the New York Times reporting.

Now, a high-ranking official within the FBI has confirmed to The Gateway Pundit that this report on Jensen is, “Fake News.”

Steven Jensen was not appointed to lead the Washington Field Office.

The Gateway Pundit cited the New York Times in an article Friday, while acknowledging there was no formal announcement on the FBI website, the Washington Field Office’s website, or social media, nor Director Kash Patel’s social media and calling the move “head-scratching.”

The appointment went against everything that both Director Kash Patel and Assistant Director Dan Bongino have represented since the protest at the US Capitol, and against the “Deep State” as a whole.

It turns out, as we have confirmed, this report was not true.

The testimony from FBI Supervisory Intelligence Analyst George Hill in 2023 about Jensen, however, is not “fake news.”

The question now becomes, who was the source of the New York Times? Was it a ‘smoke out’ or a ‘canary trap’? Or was there ever a ‘source’ on Jensen’s report at all?
