Yet another inexcusable airline accident unfolded last night as questions continue regarding the overall safety of flying.

As The New York Post reported, two Delta jets “absolutely smashed” into each other on the runway at LaGuardia Airport, destroying one plane’s nose and tearing off a massive part of a wing.

Delta released a statement explaining that a “low-speed collision” occurred between Endeavor Air Flight 5047, arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina, and Endeavor Flight 5155, which was scheduled to depart for Roanoke, Virginia. The incident happened at roughly 9:56 P.M.

According to CBS News, Endeavor Flight 5155 was carrying 32 people, 28 passengers and four crewmembers, while Endeavor Flight 5047 was carrying 61 people, 57 passengers and 4 crewmembers.

Here is a video of the collision’s aftermath.

Here is the flight track video showing the collision:

“Their right wing clipped our nose and the cockpit. We have damage to our windscreen and… some of our screens in here,” a pilot said in air traffic control audio.

“We got absolutely smashed by another Delta flight. I don’t know if we hit them or they hit us, but it was super jarring,” CBS News producer Joey Annunziato, a passenger on the flight from Charlotte, said in a video.

Another passenger, William Lusk, explained to ABC that the plane that had landed “stopped, jerked, and jumped to the right.”

“Everyone went dead silent. And as everyone went dead silent, the pilot calmly came on and said, ‘Hey, we’ve been in a crash, everyone remain calm,’” he added.

Fortunately, no passengers were injured in the collision. One member of a cabin crew suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The passengers were removed from the planes and placed onto shuttle buses. Delta said it would provide hotel rooms to passengers and new flights on Thursday if needed.
