Leftist Maria Shriver Whines About President Trump’s White House Renovations, Not Bothered By Obama’s Taxpayer Funded Basketball Court

Maria Shriver, still hoping for relevancy as her career as a “journalist” has faded over the years, has turned her indignation to, of all things, President Trump’s White House renovations.

As members of her party take to the streets to promote violence and justify the political assassination of Charlie Kirk, Shriver is clutching her pearls over plans to update the date ballroom.

Shriver shared on X, “This breaks my heart and it infuriates me. Hundreds of millions of dollars to build a new ballroom. Good god.”

Shriver’s theatrics, as typical of leftists in the media, didn’t even bother to share the real story behind the renovations.  The American taxpayers will not pay a dime for updates to the most important building in the nation.  It is being entirely funded by private donations and the President himself.

The White House announced the project in July, noting, “For 150 years, Presidents, Administrations, and White House Staff have longed for a large event space on the White House complex that can hold substantially more guests than currently allowed. President Donald J. Trump has expressed his commitment to solving this problem on behalf of future Administrations and the American people.”

“The White House is one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in the world, yet the White House is currently unable to host major functions honoring world leaders and other countries without having to install a large and unsightly tent approximately 100 yards away from the main building entrance.”

“The White House State Ballroom will be a much-needed and exquisite addition of approximately 90,000 total square feet of ornately designed and carefully crafted space, with a seated capacity of 650 people — a significant increase from the 200-person seated capacity in the East Room of the White House.”

“President Trump, and other patriot donors, have generously committed to donating the funds necessary to build this approximately $200 million dollar structure. The United States Secret Service will provide the necessary security enhancements and modifications.”

As one X user notes, Presidents have been renovating and expanding the White House for more than 100 years.

Will President Trump or Melania Trump get the fanfare that Maria’s aunt got when the Kennedy’s spent approximately $2 million (equivalent to about $20.7 million in 2025 dollars, adjusted for inflation) on renovations? Unlike the Trump-stewarded renovations, the Kennedy administration used some modestly appropriated Congress funds, but did not provide any personal funding.

And what about Obama’s basketball court? No outrage?

Maybe Maria could direct some of her umbrage toward the leader of her own state. She seems unbothered by the $1.6 billion expansion of Gavin Newsom‘s California Capitol with taxpayers footing 100% of the bill.
