DEVELOPING: Alaska Airlines Grounds Flights Across the Country Amid IT Outage

Alaska Airlines grounded all flights across the country on Thursday evening amid an IT outage.
This is Alaska Airlines’ second IT outage this year.
“Alaska Airlines is experiencing an IT outage affecting operations. A temporary ground stop is in place. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you’re scheduled to fly tonight, please check your flight status before heading to the airport,” the airline said on Thursday evening.

“Alaska Airlines flights departing from Seattle Tacoma International Airport were not affected, according to the latest advisory from the FAA,” ABC News reported.
Travelers complained about the latest ground stop.
Boarded, waited two hours, then offboarded. just realized I’m still at SFO.@AlaskaAir you try to ruin my monkey reunion. Unforgivable pic.twitter.com/0ROKRSrXH8

Alaska’s website isn’t loading properly according to travelers.
The AS website is unhelpful at the moment. It is not loading properly. “Book a flight” options are all that appear.
The AS “News hub” (for media) has no mention of it yet.
Clicking on “Travel advisories” leads to a black screen with white type that reads “no healthy upstream.”

Loyal customers threatened to dump Alaska and switch to other airlines.
Second full ground stop in just a few months due to tech issues. Lack of reliable IT infrastructure is killing your reliability and customer loyalty. Sincerely, someone about to switch to Delta.

In July, Alaska Airlines grounded flights for more than three hours due to IT issues.
Alaska Airlines recently rolled out a DEI campaign.
“One of our diversity, equity and inclusion commitments is to help create career pathways for young people by supporting programs like UNCF, the nation’s largest and most effective minority education organization, who we’ve been working with for more than 15 years,” Alaska Airlines said.
Today, we are proud to reveal a special aircraft that symbolizes our support for education and equity – called “Our Commitment.” We know there is much more to do, and this airplane is a flying reminder of the journey,” the airline said in 2021.
“As a company, we know we are not yet where we need to be when it comes to diversity, but we are inspired and guided by our value to do the right thing. With this aircraft, we are doing the right thing by amplifying the conversation around education, equity and belonging and taking it to the skies,” said Ben Minicucci, Alaska Airlines CEO.
“This aircraft will continue to be an inspiration for us on the journey,” he added.
The airline continued: Based on input from employees, we set three areas of focus:
- Representation: Increasing the racial diversity of our leadership to reflect the diversity of our frontline employees.
- Culture: Cultivating an inclusive culture so employees feel welcomed and that they belong.
- Public Leadership: Working with community-based organizations to positively impact the lives of young people through education and career development.
“We are expanding our programs for outreach, recruitment and career pathways to cultivate and support diverse talent and continue to work closely with our employee business resource groups and external partners to learn and improve. See our latest DEI progress,” Alaska Airlines said.
