Japanese bears are on the prowl.

Local hunters need the help of soldiers to tackle the apex predator.

As is the case in Europe and North America, in Japan the protected bear populations are rapidly increasing in numbers, and becoming real threat to human populations.

Now, the Japanese government will deploy the armed forces to combat the growing population of aggressive bears.

The Telegraph reported:

“Ten people have been killed by the animals since April, surpassing last year’s previous high of six.

Members of the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) will be dispatched to assist local hunters in Akita, in the far north of Japan’s main island, following an appeal from the local governor.”

In the US, bears have lately become a much more dangerous threat to humans.

Yesterday (27), the body of an elderly woman was found in a ditch in Akita City.

On Friday (24), another bear attacked a couple in Higashinaruse. Two workers came to their help but ended up mauled – with one dead.

73 people were injured or killed in Akita this month alone, so governor Kenta Suzuki appealed to the national government,

“’The lives of our citizens cannot be protected without the help of the Self-Defense Forces’, he told Shinjiro Koizumi, Japan’s defense minister. ‘Attacks targeting the neck and face are extremely common, resulting in a truly dire situation’.”
