‘Charlie Kirk Elementary’ Among Finalists for New North Dakota School Name

“Charlie Kirk Elementary” has been selected as one of 29 finalists for the name of a brand-new elementary school in Fargo, North Dakota.

Fargo Public Schools sifted through a whopping 437 unique name suggestions submitted by the public between October 10 and 24, narrowing them down to a shortlist that includes honors for local heroes, historical figures, and cultural icons.

The nomination of Charlie Kirk Elementary was made by Fargo City Commissioner Michelle Turnberg, who recognized Kirk’s profound impact on conservative activism before his untimely death. Kirk was assassinated during a campus speaking event in Utah in September.

The new school, set to open its doors in the fall of 2028 at the current site of Horace Mann Elementary, will replace the aging facility with a modern learning environment for the community’s children.

Board members are slated to rank the finalists at their November 12 meeting, with the top five advancing to a final vote on November 25.

The list of finalists, in alphabetical order, includes:

Bison Meadows Elementary, Bridges, Charlie Kirk Elementary, Clint Hill Elementary, Colwell Elementary, Era Bell Thompson, Fred Rogers, Giiwendinoog, Gladys Ray, Great Plains Elementary, Heritage Elementary, Horace Mann Elementary, Jeanna North Elementary, Kate Selby Wilder Elementary, Keystone, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, Meadowlark, Métis Elementary, North Star Elementary, Northside Elementary, Pioneer Elementary, Prairie Rose Elementary, Roger Maris Elementary, Roughrider, Sky Prairie, Steve Stark, Sunflower Elementary, Trefoil, and Unity Elementary.

“Other names that were submitted multiple times that have local/state relevance but did not make the Top 29 are: Jake Wallin, Zach Robinson, Dennis Walaker, Savanna Greywind, James Buchli, and Red River Elementary,” Valley News Live reports.

Fargo’s potential tribute isn’t the only way Kirk’s legacy is being etched into the American landscape.

A stretch of highway in Clermont, Florida, specifically Schofield Road in Lake County, has been officially designated as the Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway.

Florida lawmakers have also introduced a bill requiring all 40 public colleges and universities in the state to rename at least one campus road after Kirk, such as “Charlie James Kirk Drive,” or face the loss of state funding.
