US State Department Warns Americans in Japan To Beware of Bear Attacks, as Police and Military Are Culling the Out-Of-Control Ursine Populations (VIDEOS)

Japan is loaded for bear.
We have been reporting on TGP about the alert in Japan due to record bear attacks, with over a dozen deaths.
The Japanese government deployed military and police troops, authorized to use rifles to cull the out-of-control populations.
Now, it arises that the U.S. State Department has warned Americans in Japan to ‘be alert’.
U.S. Embassy Tokyo has released an alert on increased bear sightings and attacks in parts of Northern #Japan, including #Sapporo and other areas. Please avoid affected areas, remain aware of your surroundings, and report sightings to local authorities. Full alert:… pic.twitter.com/UwFKjxN6pu

CBS News reported:
“Americans should avoid areas where bears are sighted, especially if walking alone, and be aware of their surroundings, the State Department said in a “wildlife alert” Wednesday. Anyone who spots a bear should report it to local authorities.
Bears have killed at least 13 people in Japan since April, more than double the five people killed in the 2023-2024 fiscal year, AFP reported. It’s the largest number of people killed by bears in Japan since the country began keeping such records in 2006. More than 100 other people have sustained injuries since April, according to Environment Ministry statistics from the end of October.”

Most of the attacks are happening in northern Japan.
The State Department singled out the Hokkaido and Akita Prefectures, as well as Sapporo City. There, officials had to close a park next to the U.S. Consulate General, after a bear was sighted.

Another frightening bear attack in Hokkaido, Japan. This time a bear actually managed to break into a local military base. I think it’s time for the government to start training and paying hunters to prevent this from happening. pic.twitter.com/grL9lcsYYX

Troops have been deployed to Akita to contain the beasts there, with police authorized to shoot the animals.
“U.S. citizens should register for the Smart-Traveler Enrollment Program, which makes it easier to receive security messages from the State Department and allows Americans to be located more easily in case of an emergency, the State Department said.”
A 80-year-old man from Japan’s hunting association was attacked and bitten in the face by a bear. He was caught off guard and was able to load his rifle and mag dumped on the animal.
