Dan Bongino Officially Leaves FBI After One-Year Tenure, Says Time at the Bureau Was ‘the Honor of a Lifetime’

Conservative powerhouse and former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has officially wrapped up his tenure at the bureau.
In a post on X on Saturday evening, Bongino announced that it was his last day on the job, capping off his service with involvement in the high-profile U.S. operation that led to the capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
Bongino wrote:
It was a busy last day on the job. This will be my last post on this account.
Tomorrow I return to civilian life. It’s been an incredible year thanks to the leadership and decisiveness of President Trump.
It was the honor of a lifetime to work with Director Patel, and to serve you, the American people.
See you on the other side.

He had quoted his previous post in which he shared President Donald Trump’s message about capturing Maduro, writing, “God bless America, and all those who defend Her.”

Bongino, a former NYPD officer, Secret Service agent, and popular podcast host, was appointed as FBI Deputy Director in early 2025 following President Trump’s return to office.
Working alongside FBI Director Kash Patel, Bongino played a key role in overhauling the agency, focusing on rooting out corruption and restoring public trust after years of controversies under previous administrations.
His brief but impactful time at the agency included clashes with holdover Justice Department officials over issues like the Jeffrey Epstein files, where Bongino pushed for transparency.
Bongino had initially signaled his intent to step down in mid-December, citing a desire to return to private life and possibly his media career.
President Trump confirmed the move, praising Bongino’s contributions while noting he “wants to go back to his show.”
Despite rumors of internal tensions, Bongino’s exit appears amicable.
There has been speculation that former Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey could step in as his replacement.
