Comedian and talk show host Conan O’Brien has urged fellow comedians to stop crying about President Trump.

Without calling them out by name, O’Brien criticized the likes of Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, who spend most of their airtime harping on about the current administration.

He explained during an appearance at the Oxford Union in the United Kingdom:

Some comics go the route of “I’m going to just say “F Trump” all the time’… that’s their comedy. And I think well now, a little bit, you’re being co-opted because you’re so angry.

You’ve been lulled. It’s like a siren leading you into the rocks. You’ve been lulled into just saying ‘F Trump. F Trump. F Trump. Screw this guy.’

And I think you’ve now put down your best weapon, which is being funny, and you’ve exchanged it for anger.

That any person would say, ‘Well, things are too serious now. I don’t need to be funny.’ And I think, well, if you’re a comedian, you always need to be funny.

You just have to find a way. And you just have to find a way to channel that anger into a way…because good art will always be a great weapon, will always be a perfect weapon against power.

But if you’re just screaming and you’re just angry, you’ve lost your best tool in the toolbox.

However, it is worth noting that O’Brien has also made a fool of himself in an effort to ridicule Donald Trump.

Back in 2018, O’Brien responded to a claim that Trump had referred to Haiti as among a list of “shithole countries” by visiting there and staying in luxury hotels.

Since his voyage, Haiti has experienced multiple coup d’etats and is widely considered to be a failed state.

The U.S. Department of State explicitly urges citizens not to travel to Haiti due to the risk of coming back in a body bag.

“The Travel Advisory for Haiti is Level 4: Do Not Travel due to kidnapping, crime, terrorist activity, civil unrest, and limited health care,” the advisory states.

O’Brien has not yet returned.
