Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Sunday responded to Trump’s looming deployment of active duty troops in Minneapolis, doubling down on his support for rioters and criminals and vowing that they will not back down until federal authorities leave the city.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, roughly 1,500 active-duty soldiers were placed on standby for deployment to Minnesota amid violent clashes between rioters and law enforcement over ICE raids.

President Trump has repeatedly threatened to invoke the insurrection act, stating on Thursday, “If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT, which many Presidents have done before me, and quickly put an end to the travesty that is taking place in that once great State.”

Trump also previously said he plans to send National Guard troops back into California, Chicago, and Portland, and to invoke the Insurrection Act if necessary.

Frey responded to the troop deployment during a Sunday appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, telling host Jake Tapper that the move is “clearly designed to intimidate the people of Minneapolis.”

“We’re not going to be intimidated,” he continued, claiming that federal agents and military troops will not make the city safer.

WATCH:

Frey: This act was clearly designed to intimidate the people of Minneapolis. And here’s the thing, we’re not going to be intimidated. If the goal here is safety, we’ve got many mechanisms to achieve safety. And the best way to get safety is not to have an influx of even more agents, and in this case, military, in Minneapolis. Right now, we have about 600 police officers, and they’ve got 3000 or so ICE agents and border control. That they are now talking about deploying 1500 military, this is, well, it’s ridiculous, but we will not be intimidated by the actions of this federal government.

In another portion of the interview, Frey appeared to threaten that the chaos and rioting will continue until ICE leaves Minneapolis.

“The second these ICE agents leave the city, I’m telling you, you’re going to have calm in Minneapolis, and you will continue to see the great comeback that we had been experiencing,” he said. Ironically, he called on the Trump administration to “Let us have businesses that are open and daycares,” which are riddled with fraud and welfare abuse by aliens, and prompted federal action in the city.

WATCH:

Frey: The second these ICE agents leave the city, I’m telling you, you’re going to have calm in Minneapolis, and you will continue to see the great comeback that we had been experiencing. Let us get back to that comeback. Let us live in peace. Let us have businesses that are open and daycares where you don’t need to escort staff to and from. Let us live in a place where, you know— I mean, look, in Minneapolis, we’ll stand up.

If we have to sled down ice hills to get to a protest, we’ll do that. If we’ve got to make sure that people are escorted to the grocery store, you know, we’ll do that. But truthfully, we want to get back to a place where we can just love on our city, do our daily activities, just like any other town in America.
