CONFIRMED: Peace Talks Between Russia and Ukraine to Take Place This Week in Turkey

Russian and Ukrainian delegations meet back in June 2, in Istanbul/ Wiki Commons.

Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are back on track.

It’s now confirmed that the next round of peace talks between the warring neighbors Russia and Ukraine will be held Wednesday (23) in Turkey – most probably in Istanbul, where the previous rounds took place.

Update: Russians are saying Thursday and Friday.

Kiev regime leader Volodymyr Zelensky stated that this was confirmed by Rustem Umerov, his demoted former Defense Minister turned into the new Security and Defense Council’s head.

Discussions reportedly include a possible prisoner exchange.

DevDiscourse reported:

“Ukraine and Russia are gearing up for a significant round of peace talks scheduled to take place in Turkey on Wednesday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy disclosed this information based on reports from the head of Ukraine’s Security and Defense Council.

In his nightly address, Zelenskiy shared that discussions with Rustem Umerov are underway regarding the preparation for a prisoner exchange. He mentioned that Umerov has confirmed plans for a meeting with the Russian side in Turkey.”

Rustem Umerov, from Ukraine (left) and Russia’s Vladimir Medinsky, will continue to be leading the delegations.

Some may remember NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte dismissing the Russian delegation, saying ‘Putin did not send serious people to the negotiations’, and calling the head of the Russian side ‘some historian’.

Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova issued a fiery response: “This ‘some historian’ is an expert in international relations, a scholar, and a statesman Vladimir Medinsky. And the ‘serious delegation’ from Ukraine was headed by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Umerov, who has never served in the army and has been a manager in a telephone company all his life.”

Whatever out opinion on Medinsky’s qualification, he was the head of the Russian negotiators back in the 2022 talks, so it goes in line with Moscow’s treating these new talks as a continuation.

As for Umerov, he was demoted from the position of Defense Minister but still seems to be heading the negotiations for Kiev.

Ukraine talks: Russia & Ukraine to discuss two opposing draft memoranda – ‘significant diplomatic work ahead’.”

UPDATE: A new round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will take place on July 24-25, a source in Moscow told RIA Novosti

So now we have two different dates for the talks. Stay tuned as we sort this out.
