Sen. Richard Blumenthal Sends WARNING to Republicans After Comey Indictment: “What Goes Around Comes Around”

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) defends disgraced ex-FBI Director James Comey during a softball MSNBC interview — admitting Democrats will use lawfare to go after conservatives if they retake the White House.

During an appearance on The Weeknight to discuss the DOJ’s historic indictment of disgraced former FBI Director James Comey, Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, openly admitted what conservatives have been warning about for years.

Blumenthal claimed Trump’s DOJ is “perverting the rule of law” by holding James Comey accountable for lying to Congress and obstructing justice. Yet he never once condemned Joe Biden’s DOJ for hounding Trump with politically motivated indictments, endless witch hunts, and lawfare designed to bankrupt him before Election Day.

This is the same Richard Blumenthal who cheered when Biden’s DOJ tried to put Trump in prison for the rest of his life. But when the tables turn and a corrupt Democrat like James Comey finally faces consequences, suddenly it’s “scary” and “dark” for America.

With a straight face, Blumenthal warned that Democrats could turn the tables and do the exact same thing to a conservative figure in the future.

“What goes around comes around.”

Blumenthal:
It is a really dark, sad, scary day for America, and that post that you just showed is truly petrifying. The President of the United States ordered criminal charges against an individual who happens to be a political adversary and a critic of him. Let’s be clear about what’s happening here: the President is singling out someone he just doesn’t like. That post that you just showed could create a defense—maybe even grounds for dismissal.

I spent most of my life in law enforcement. I was the U.S. Attorney in Connecticut for four and a half years. We were very careful about what we said on charges because they could be used against us in a criminal trial. And this case is replete with Donald Trump telling the Attorney General to act—to act fast—and creating possible defenses here.

But let’s look at the broader picture. I always felt as a prosecutor the most consequential decisions I made were whether to charge someone. People simply don’t fully recover from criminal charges, even if they are acquitted, because half the world believes that they were acquitted on some technicality.

Well, Donald Trump is populating the Department of Justice with lawyers who will do his bidding, pervert the rule of law, and single out people that they may not like.

Who may have offended them, or may be adversaries politically—whether it’s a small business person or a public official. Today it’s Comey; tomorrow, it could be you.

[…]

The old saying, what comes around, goes around. Today, it’s a Republican president, but degrading the democracy and ruining, literally perverting the great ethos and tradition of the Department of Justice, where I was in awe when I walked through those halls as a federal prosecutor. I think it’s time for Republican colleagues to say, enough is enough, and we are going to push them and do it hard. On the Senate floor, privately in the Judiciary Committee.
