The shooting broke out during a concert at the ceremony.

According to a news release from the city of Concord, the shooting “was not a random act of violence directed at the public.”

“The Concord Police Department investigation revealed the shooting was between two suspects who are known to each other,” the release notes.

Concord Police Chief Jimmy Hughes said, “A night of celebration for our community was interrupted by senseless violence, affecting everyone who was there.”

He continued, “Our community showed great strength and resilience as everyone came together to help one another and our officers. Due to the quick actions of our downtown businesses, the public, first responders, and law enforcement, we were able to quickly evacuate the area, prevent additional injuries, and identify all suspects involved.”

Concord police identified 18-year-old Nasir Ahmad Bostic of Concord as a shooter and one of the four who suffered a gunshot wound. He was hospitalized in critical condition.
