Last Tuesday in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump welcomed Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the Oval Office for a high-profile diplomatic meeting.

The two leaders discussed regional stability, U.S.–Saudi counterterrorism cooperation, and ongoing negotiations over Gaza reconstruction.

The crown prince toured the White House, attended a formal dinner, and participated in bilateral talks—a routine state-level reception for a major American ally.

But on Capitol Hill, the reaction was anything but routine. Sen. Adam Schiff, the California Democrat best known for pushing the Russia-collusion narrative, produced one of his most dramatic videos of the year.

Schiff spent more than 10 minutes attacking Trump personally, alleging corruption, foreign influence, and even resurrecting long-debunked claims from Trump’s first term.

Instead of acknowledging the strategic importance of Saudi Arabia—America’s strongest energy partner and a key player in Middle East diplomacy—Schiff portrayed the meeting as some kind of national scandal.

Schiff began by recounting Saudi Arabia’s human-rights issues, referencing the 2018 murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

He then accused Trump of “defending” the crown prince and claimed Trump ignored U.S. intelligence.

What Schiff refused to acknowledge, however, is the simple reality: the Biden administration also maintained close cooperation with Riyadh for four years, including its own high-level meetings, arms negotiations, and diplomatic coordination.

The U.S.–Saudi partnership has been bipartisan for decades.

Instead of dealing with facts, Schiff used the Senate floor to relive old political fights. He brought up the 2018 Helsinki press conference, claimed Trump “sided with Putin,” and even referenced the Mueller investigation—a report that found no evidence of collusion.

He then drifted into conspiracy, suggesting Trump supports Saudi policy because of “crypto deals” and “real estate projects”—claims based entirely on speculation, not evidence.

What actually happened on Tuesday is far more straightforward: a sitting president met with the leader of a critical American ally at the White House.

Presidents do this every single week with foreign heads of state. Trump’s meeting focused on the Gaza ceasefire negotiations, rising global energy costs, and U.S. national-security interests in the region.

Schiff’s outrage reflected something else entirely—a political obsession with Donald Trump that has defined his career.

The American people watched a president conduct serious foreign-policy work in the Oval Office while a Democrat senator staged a meltdown across the street.

This week, Trump strengthened a key alliance. Schiff delivered another failed attempt to undermine Trump. Only one of them was focused on America’s future.
