US Catholic Bishop Leader Slams Trump’s Mass Deportations, Claims Immigration Crackdown Is “Spreading Fear” Nationwide

The leadership of the U.S. Catholic Church is once again taking aim at President Trump’s immigration enforcement agenda, this time accusing the administration of “spreading fear” across immigrant communities as federal authorities ramp up deportations and interior enforcement.
Paul Coakley, the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), made the remarks Sunday during an appearance on CBS News’ Face the Nation with host Margaret Brennan.
During the interview, Brennan asked what people of faith should do in response to the administration’s actions.
Coakley responded with a familiar talking point frequently invoked by open-borders advocates, asserting that the United States is “a nation of immigrants” and must remain “generous in welcoming immigrants.”
While briefly acknowledging that nations have a “right and a duty to respect sovereign borders,” Coakley quickly pivoted back to arguing that migrants should be allowed to move freely when conditions in their home countries are unsafe.
Margaret Brennan:
What would you advise others, other people of faith, to do for these immigrants?Paul Coakley:
Well, we are a nation of immigrants ourselves. I think that’s something that we, as Americans, need to always come back to. We are founded upon the immigrant experience. I think we need to be generous in welcoming immigrants. We certainly have a right and a duty to respect the borders of our nation. I would say, remind all of us that we have a right and a duty to respect the sovereign borders of a state, but we also have a responsibility to welcome migrants.
This is a fundamental principle in Catholic social teaching regarding immigration and migration. People have a right to remain in their homeland, but they also ought to be allowed to migrate when conditions in their homeland are unsafe and necessitate moving to a place where they can find peace and security.

Last month, the globalist pope called on US bishops to rebuke President Trump’s migrant raids in the US.
Of course, since Pope Francis the Conference of Bishops in the US is consumed by far left members, a very obvious development in Catholic communities across the country.
With Pope Leo XIV’s request, the US Bishops released a near-unanimous statement condemning President Trump for his aggressive raids on illegal aliens.
“We oppose the indiscriminate mass deportation of people. We pray for an end to dehumanizing rhetoric and violence, whether directed at immigrants or at law enforcement,” the bishops declared.
President Trump gave illegals plenty of time to leave the country. Now he is fulfilling a promise to voters and is removing thousands of the 20 million illegal migrants who entered the country under Joe Biden. the Biden years, the Biden administration lost contact with approximately 300,000 unaccompanied migrant children based on aggregated data from DHS OIG audits, congressional oversight, and FOIA releases. Where was the Catholic Church then?
Oh, that’s right, the Catholic Church was making big dollars from the open border catastrophe. Total federal funding to Catholic entities for migrant-related services during the Biden years was approximately $2.3 billion.
Trump cut off that cash cow for the Church.
