Now that US President Donald J. Trump brought the attention of the world to the geopolitical importance of the autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, everyone cares deeply about Greenland.
Case in point: Yesterday (6), France and Canada opened consulates in Greenland’s capital Nuuk.
Canada and France have opened diplomatic consulates in Greenland on Friday to show support for NATO ally Denmark and the Artic island in the wake of US efforts to secure control. Reuters reported:
“The diplomatic expansion signaled commitments by the two nations to strengthen their Arctic presence and partnerships with Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory that has become a focal point due to Trump’s assertion that U.S. control of the island is a national security priority.”
Canada and France opened consulates in Greenland amid Trump’s repeated threats to take control of the arctic island.

BBC News reported:
A delegation of senior Canadian officials, including Governor General Mary Simon, and foreign minister Anita Anand, travelled to Nuuk on Friday to formally open Canada’s consulate, accompanied by a Canadian Coast Guard ship.
At a flag raising ceremony, Anand said that the consulate symbolises Canada’s long-term commitment to ‘stand together with the people of Greenland and Denmark’.”
